To the fact that]@ it's rather difficult to really Deactivate My Facebook Account, even when you want to. Appears that the company wants to hold on to your data even when you state you're all done, so while you can 'shut off' your account, Facebook will cheerily email you later on saying "we've saved your information and you can reactivate whenever you're prepared. We miss you currently!"

A bit frustrating from a personal privacy viewpoint, for sure, however I wish to think that after a specific amount of time deactivated accounts are wiped from the information storage, though that could just be wishful thinking in the 21st Century, the age of data mining.

Deactivate My Facebook Account

I can step you through every part of this process because I unfortunately needed to deactivate my daddy's account after he died. No point in keeping it around and while there is a way to "memorialize" somebody's presence by having their account remain, that simply appears weird to me so we didn't go down that route. Curious? Discover more here: memorialize a deceased individual's Facebook account.

Strange.

To deactivate your very own account, start by going to "Settings", then "Security":.

See that last link, in a different typeface and color? Click on "Deactivate your account".

You'll get here:.

See all those reasons for leaving? Facebook has responses for nearly all of them that attempt to keep you around, useful Frequently asked questions on the best ways to handle a hacked account, excessive email, how to discover Facebook, time management, and so on. In truth, it seems like the only way you can really * stop * Facebook is to choose "Other".

Do that, click "Verify" if you're sure you desire to continue, and ...

Makes good sense. However then a click on "Deactivate Now" and ...

Yeah, it's their site, not yours, so you need to back up and supply a reason.

I think you can just say "Fed up" in that box. I suggest, what are they going to do, say your factor isn't really legit and you can't shut down??

Lastly, when you do get things lined up for their process, you'll see this:.

Here's what I discover curious: I inspected "choose out of future email" and Facebook nonetheless sent out an e-mail message with instructions on how to reactivate the account. Apparently "leave me alone" isn't rather clear enough:.

I can just hope and presume that the account is now appropriately shut off and will not appear in individuals's buddy lists, on searches, etc. And that's how it's done.
